195 Egremont was summoned to appear before the King and Council on 3 March 1453/54, but he kept apart in such secret places that the writs could not be served. He was joined by the Duke of Exeter, and in May 1454 the Duke of York, then Protector, found it necessary to proceed in person against them. Exeter, and Egremont and his brother Richard, were ordered to appear before the King and Council on 25 June 1454. About this time a Bill reciting the misconduct of Egremont and Richard was presented by the Commons, and it was enacted that proclamations should be made commanding them to appear before the Chancellor within a certain time, and find sufficient surety of peace or be committed to prison; if they did not appear, they were to forfeit all they possessed. (Percy), Thomas 1st Baron Egremont (I914)
